Who is this Website for? How to use it?

This website is for anyone who is trying to teach school students how to think historically while they are navigating the internet and using information processing apps.

This website is divided into different categories of teaching ideas. Each section includes some generic teaching resources that you can adapt for your own students, as well as full examples that can be adapted or used directly from this website.

Teaching and learning activities are divided into three sections:

  1. Modelled Practice incorporating a ‘Think-Aloud Protocol’. In this step, the teacher models the activity for the students while explaining their historical thinking. The teacher projects their own screen within the classroom and uses metacognitive language to describe the thinking processes and decisions that they are making as they do it.

  2. Scaffolded Practice. In this step, the teacher uses some supporting prompts or resources to assist students as they engage in historical thinking online.

  3. Independent Practice. Students work with minimal guidance from the teacher. The teacher may ask questions or examine students’ work to gauge students’ understanding and provide feedback.
